Beacon Concepts is the recently created in-house design department for Beacon Communities. Beacon’s decision to invest in an integrated design department demonstrates our commitment to provide well-designed spaces for all residents, in every community and at every income level. From our perspective, design is not just how a building looks, but how it works for the people who live there. We believe that good design can improve lives and build community.

Beacon Concepts works in conjunction with third party architects. We start by helping create the overall design concepts. We help design the interior common spaces and the apartments, with a focus on kitchen and bathroom design. Throughout the design process, we work to ensure that the interior design principles carry through to the building’s exterior. We believe that well designed spaces impact people’s lives, which is why we strive to create spaces that are visually pleasing, efficient, durable, and environmentally friendly.

Having designers on our staff allows the people who design our buildings to work closely with the people who manage them. This in-house capacity enables us to incorporate daily feedback from our management division so that we understand what has and has not worked, what we need to do differently and what has stood the test of time. While most developers hire outside designers who will be gone by the time a building is occupied, our designers are in the office, hearing firsthand what our residents and maintenance colleagues think of our work. Knowing that we’ll get feedback every day gives us another reason to make sure our designs work.

Our designers are part of the planning process from the very beginning, assuring that good design will never be an afterthought. We do not approach building and unit design in a cookie cutter fashion. Rather, each community is unique and designed so that it is appropriate for its surroundings. By making sure that our buildings are designed to be assets to the community, we know that we are leaving a legacy of good design and creating great places to live.
